Several verses caught my eye in this reading, the first is:

1) 1When God created people, he made them in the likeness of God …3When Adam was 130 years old, his son Seth was born, and Seth was the very image of his father. (Genesis 5:1,3 NLT)

Hmm, First man was made in the image of God, and subsequently all the others were made in the image of his father, Adam. There is a BIG difference when we have an image of the original then when we make an image of the “copy” so to speak. (Could this have something to do with the sons of God/daughters of men? Just a thought and I’m not throwing out a theology.)

2) Then the Lord said, My Spirit shall not forever dwell and strive with man, for he also is flesh; but his days shall yet be 120 years.
(Genesis 6:3 AMP)

I used another translation for my second eye-catcher. “My Spirit will not forever strive with man for he is ALSO flesh.” The image God made Adam in, in my humble opinion, was not after our outward appearance. There was something else about us that was placed within us that reflected God’s image back to Him. I think that is a hint for me, for us to get off of the skin color, straight hair curly/nappy hair, wide nose thin note, big lips thin lips kick we find ourselves on in an attempt to demonize each other.

3) It’s not so much as what you know but who you know.

But Noah found grace (favor) in the eyes of the Lord. This is the history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a just and righteous man, blameless in his [evil] generation; Noah walked [in habitual fellowship] with God.
(Genesis 6:8-9 AMP)

Noah’s sons and daughter-in-laws were given favor by God not because of their righteousness but because of their father’s righteousness. Proverbs 13:22 states:

A good man leaves an inheritance [of moral stability and goodness] to his children's children, and the wealth of the sinner [finds its way eventually] into the hands of the righteous, for whom it was laid up.
(Proverbs 13:22 AMP)

Our lives are lived not so much for ourselves but for our progeny. What kind of inheritance are we leaving?

Grace and peace,
Ramona

I am really enjoying reading the commentary with this read thru. I have read the Bible all the way through before but I really wanted to learn more so I love the option to read the blog and the links that are included. They are GREAT. As for scripture memory. I did that in 2010 but stopped last year due to some treatments I was taking. I am planning on starting back this year. One big help to me in the past is a free program on www.memoryverses.org Once downloaded the program allows you to input your scripture and then offers different ways to assist with memorization. Thanks for all the links and the pictures that are included on the blog. Tammy

I am new to this blog this year and just want to say your commentary is excellent. I really do appreciate it and I will be reading everyday - God Willing :)

Mike,

I also totally agree with you about memorizing the verses. I read a book on Dietrich BonHoffer and he emphasized this facet of Bible study. Great advice in my mind and i"m trying to do it :)

Matthew 3:13-15 (NIV)

13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

I can see that Jesus was acting his humility in his baptism by John the Baptist. As in John 1:1-3

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

Jesus simply submitted himself to John the Baptist so that he got baptist by a person who was created by him (As in John 1:1-3 described).

I am really enjoying this blog as a supplement to the daily scripture reading. I have tried to read through the entire Bible many times over the years, but have always failed to complete it. I hope this is going to be the first of many successful years. Thanks for the encouragement!

I love learning bible verses and get the priviledge to learn verses each week with my students as I teach at a christian school. Lo I am with you alway, is my preschool verse this week and prov 23;26, my son, give me thine heart..However, I have know John 3:16 almost my entire life and 23rd Psalm when I am scared. I love the concept of "praying the psalms" that is cool to me! I also pray to my students from Isaiah and Jeremiah about By His Stripes We are Healed, and No weapon formed against me will prosper, and God said, I have a plan for your life, a plan to prosper and do well, to have a hope and a future." Jer 29:11. I love many verses just like in Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding, in all thine ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.!

God Bless!
DeeDee
