Hi!

I just found your site after reading about someone else who was going to attempt reading the Bible in a year, and decided on impulse to join in. My husband and I have been having problems lately and I've been feeling that I need to get in touch with my spiritual self, and figured this is a good place to start.

1. Have you read the entire Bible before? No, just a few kid's bible stories as a child.

2. What are you looking forward to about reading the entire Bible? Not sure - it's just something I feel I need to do for myself. I must be looking for something, but I don't think I'll know what it is until I find it.

3. What's your favorite book or verse in the Bible? 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

4. What's a fun or interesting fact about yourself? I'm a SAHM to 2 young sons, married to a teacher, and we live in SE Australia

1. Have you read the entire Bible before? Yes, the first time was with the 'Life Application Bible', but it didn't stick; and I read OYB 2008 - as much as my uncertain internet connection woud allow. 2. What are you looking forward to about reading the entire Bible in 2009? An improved understanding and absorbtion. 3. What's your favorite book or verse in the Bible?Genesis. 4. What's a fun or interesting fact about yourself? My wonderful wife, Sue. 5. Do you have a blog or website link that you want to share with everyone? Not really. What verses or insights stand out to you in today's readings? Genesis, Chapter 1.
PTL for Mike!
God bless
Stuart

The opportunity of using another translation using www.biblegateway.com. This year I was led to use the Contemporary English Version and look forward to how God will use it to deepen my understanding of Him.

Today my favorite book is Hebrews...specifically chapter 12. My verse? Romans 8:1...There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

What stood out to me in today's readings was the 14 generations times 3 in Matthew's account of Jesus' genealogy. I have never actually taken the time to study His genealogy and this has prompted me to do it!
Thanks again for the blog Mike!

Hi all!
Yes I have listened to and read along with most of the Bible last year.[Didn't quite finihed :{] This year I will.
To gain wisdom and understanding of God's word so I can share and back up what I believe in.
Favourite book - Matthew
Father/stepfather of 16 great kids and an opa [grandfather] of 17 and 2 on the way. I'm a teacher and my marriage has gone to the dogs, hence the Bible for survival . God has saved me many times and now I depend on him for all.
No blog - too scared.

Forgot - I am an Aussie.

By the way, I am listening to and read along with The Bible Experience this year. It brings the Bible alive. It is so well done.

Hello, Mike, and to all who are participating in the 1YB program here on this blog. First, I'll answer the questions...

1. Have you read the entire Bible before?
- No. I have tried and failed to read the Bible through in a year, but never have completed. I am encouraged that I can now do so thanks to this site. I have been here since November and thank God for leading me here. Thank you, Mike.

2. What are you looking forward to about reading the entire Bible in 2009?
- Reading the whole Bible. Maybe getting involved in the comments as we are doing today with other believers.

3. What's your favorite book or verse in the Bible?

4. What's a fun or interesting fact about yourself?
- I found out in 2007 that I have ADD and have had it since I was a child. That explains a lot about me. I am also going to be on a Kidney Pairing Transplant program to donate my kidney so my older brother, John - who led me to the Lord - can get a kidney and have a better quality of life before the Lord's return.

5. Do you have a blog or website link that you want to share with everyone?
- I have 2 websites. http://gatherersforchrist.com/ where I am writing a free fictional series based on the End Times. It is difficult to find the time to do this, but I shall persevere. And also I started a blog about the time I came to this blog... http://michael-chroniclesoflife.blogspot.com/ which I hope to continue.

I love the OYB and will continue to 'read' and 'listen'. I use Brian Hardin 'daily audio bible readings' of the OYB. I find his personallized commentary useful. I can review the readings at least twice a day.

Genesis

Just realized the first foreshadowing occurs in Gen 1:4

"God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness."

Two camps - one called "good", and there is separation. Just as it is for humans. Light and darkness used as symbols extensively in Gospel of John.
============================================================
God is called Elohim up to Gen 2:4. Name reflects power (as Creator). It is plural.

In Gen 1:26 it says "Let us make man..."

I understand the use of the majestic plural, but to me - it is an early indicator of the Trinity.

BTW if you run across someone who believes in "A" God - but not the Trinity. "A" God who created the universe, and man in his image. Here is a good question:

How does a "solo" God create man with the ability to love, have relationships, and communicate? Who did this God talk to, have relationships with, and love before time began (before creation)? Not an easy question to answer. Much easier when you believe in the Trinity.

Hello fellow Bible readers, my name is Aaron and I've been a Sunday School teacher for the last 5 years. I'm away at college this year, so I don't have the ability to teach Sunday School this year, which is unfortunate, as I've always enjoyed it. I decided to do the One Year Bible program out of personal interest. I tend not to get things done unless there is a plan laid out for me - a schedule feels like a deadline, and a deadline is something I don't want to miss! I look forward to an exciting learning experience, religiously and historically.

I have been a believer my entire life even attending 2 years of Bible College. I started reading the OYB on line last year and read every single day until October 1st. The scriptures were revealing to me a God that I did not like, love or want to be involved with anymore. I am starting again today and my prayer is that God has matured me to see Him in His word as He is and not as who I WANT Him to be.

I am looking forward to a different perspecive of the God this year.

Favorite verse is Gal. 2:20, I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who lives, but Christ who lives through me. As I live this life in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and delivered Himself up for me.

I like reading the blog daily to see that others are pushing through the word with me and I am not alone!

No blogs.

Lori

I tried to read the entire Bible last year and didnt succeed. Im trying to succeed this year.
I teach 5-8 grade ss girls and I live in East Tennesse
Love the Bible, dont have a favorite verse
I need the encouragement that this blog has to help me read the Bible through this year.

Matthew

Joseph could not be birth father of Jesus. Here in Joseph's line in verse 11 and 12 is Jeconiah. Jeconiah was the last seated king of Israel. In Jeremiah 22 God proclaims that no descendant of Jeconiah will sit on the throne of David.

Problematic for Jesus and prophecy unless there was a birth without Joseph being involved in the conception.

We will see that Mary also had bloodlines to David, but that is not a right to throne. Jesus as Joseph's adopted son and pursuant to the laws of the time had the full rights and privileges of a "blood" son.

Of course Jesus would have to be the eldest "son" to have the legal rights to the throne of David.
======================================================
Immanuel/Jesus

Is there a contradiction based on Is 7:14? No, Jesus has many names. Being "called" by a name is not the same as being given a "birth" name. Dead Sea Scrolls and Matthew says - and "they" will call him Immanuel. Immanuel (God is with us) is a name that Jesus is called, but Joseph named the child - Jesus.

BTW Love the fact that God chose Jesus as the name. Jesus means - "God is Salvation" or "God saves". It is not rituals, sacraments, any human beings, money or anything else that is salvation. Just God.

Why the Magi and their gifts?

You can do your own googling of Daniel, magi, persia, etc. But they may have been beleivers, influenced by a prophecy of Daniel back in his days as head of the magi.

The gifts:
gold - for a king
incense - for a priest
myrrh - embalming ointment.

In the Millenium our Lord will also recive the gifts of gold and incense (King and High Ptiest) - but no mention of myrrh. His death was once and for all.

Hello Everyone,

I've read through the Bible several times before and find it helpful to alternate different approaches. Sometimes I'll read slowly and really savor a book--other times I think it's good to get your mind around "the big vision"

Last year I read only the NT with a group of ladies online. The plan was good and we only read five days a week which gave time for catchup. This year I'm joining the One Year Blog group and I know that I'll have to be diligent and ambitious to keep up with the plan.

I also find accountability helpful and hope to find a core group of folks who will hang in there with me as we read over the course of 2009. I'm looking forward to the diversity of this group--folks who are from all over the world and in different seasons of life, at different stages in their spiritual walk--it's good!

Two of my favorite books in the Bible are Romans and Psalms. I love the way Paul hashes out the nuts and bolts of the faith in Romans. And I love David's psalms--his heart for God and desire to know Him better.

I homeschool three children and live in the mountains of North Carolina. I love gardening and find strength and peace in the beauty of God's creation.

I look forward to walking through the Bible with you all in 2009,

Psalm 1

Like Gen 1:4 two camps. Here it is the "blessed" and the camp of the wicked, sinners, and scoffers.

Does not say how to become blessed, but gives two characteristics:

Delight in the towrah (law/instruction) of the Lord, and meditate/reflect on it consistently and often. Reading is good, but also set aside some time to think about what you read :)

Also like a tree bearing fruit. "What he does prospers". The idea is not that one becomes rich, but that your acts prosper - even if it does not seem so at the time. If you are close to God, abide in Jesus and he in you, and are in His word in a meaningful way - then we can go about doing the "works" that God pre-ordained for us from before time.

Not so the wicked :( Their lot is not so good.

1. Have you read the entire Bible before? no

2. What are you looking forward to about reading the entire Bible in 2009? actually getting through it and reading it in "The Message" version.

3. What's your favorite book or verse in the Bible? My favorite book is Genesis and my favorite verse, this year, is Jeremiah 33:3 "Call to me and I will answer you. I will tell you great and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.

4. What's a fun or interesting fact about yourself? I wouldn't call it fun, but I am a homeschooling mom and I'm trying to figure out how to have alone time with God. Oh yes, and I get BOOED on Guitar hero. lol

5. Do you have a blog or website link that you want to share with everyone? I have a few of them but I will post just one here. YOu can link to others if you choose: http://alexis-crazymomma.blogspot.com/

My New Year's Resolution is in this one verse:
Psalm 1:2 "But they delight in doing everything the LORD wants; day and night they think about his law."

Hey ya'll! I'm so excited about starting this year off right! And knowing there are people going through it with me - such an unspeakable blessing. Here are my answers to the questions:
1 - No, I have never read through the whole Bible. I've been a Christian nearly my whole life, but I've always struggled with consistency in spending time in the Word. This is something the Lord has been working on in my life, and I'm excited to see what all He teaches me through this.
2 - I am absolutely certain the Lord is going to blow my mind this year. The Word is so central, so irreplaceable in the life of a Christian, and I know there are many pieces of truth and beauty I have yet to uncover.
3 - My favorite book of the Bible is definitely Hosea. I think it is such a beautiful picture of the Lord's pursuit of man. I am so much like Hagar, leaving the safety and beauty of the Lord who pursues me, and returning to prostitution and pursuit of things that lead to death. But He never gives up!
4 - I'm a 23 year old nurse from Illinois, but right now I'm living in West Africa. I took a year off after graduation to do medical missions. I'm working in a pediatric AIDS clinic, and in April, I'll be going back home after 14 months in Africa.
5 - My blog is elizabethsorensen.blogspot.com and I try to keep it updated, although right now its been awhile!

God bless, and I pray this year is one of growth in the Lord!
