Wisdom or money can get you almost anything, but it's important to know that only wisdom can save your life. Notice the way God does things; then fall into line. Don't fight the ways of God, for who can straighten out what he has made crooked?
Enjoy prosperity while you can. But when hard times strike, realize that both come from God. That way you will realize that nothing is certain in this life. (Ecclesiastes 7:12-14)

A New Year that brings with it a New Beginning. Today we set out to begin the daunting task of reading through the entire Bible. For some this will be the first time and will bring with it tons of questions and probably comments like, “What does this all mean?” Some stories will be exciting and better than the entire series of The Godfather or more spectacular than Star Wars. There will also be plenty when you will think of giving up with a statement saying, “God, this is boring and besides, this makes no sense.”

From a veteran Read through the Bible Reader, may I encourage you to stay focused and read even when it seems like you are chewing wood. I began reading through the Word in 1987 and some of the “What in the world does this mean?” have just begun to be answered. Each and every time I go through I get a deeper understanding of the things I grasped at first and at each succeeding reading though and an a simple understanding of things I just had no clue about.

Genesis is the Book of Beginnings so let us come to this book leaving behind our preconceived understandings and ideas, our denominational glasses suspending our disbelief and unbelief believing that God’s Word will explain itself to us in the daylight of His Word.

Whom will he teach knowledge?
And whom will he make to understand the message?
Those just weaned from milk?
Those just drawn from the breasts?
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept,
Line upon line, line upon line,
Here a little, there a little.”
For with stammering lips and another tongue
He will speak to this people
(Isaiah 28:9-11-NKJV)

In the Beginning is our chance to study God’s Principals and Patterns so that we can apply those patterns and principals to our lives.

Notice the way God does things; then fall into line. Don't fight the ways of God

Grace and peace to all in the New Year,
Ramona

I am a Grandma from PA. I am excited to be reading with you again in 2011. I have done it before, but sadly I neglected my reading for the past couple of years. Thank you for your readings and encouragement. Your pictures just amaze me and are so appropriate; they just widen my horizon on the Bible. Thank you and God Bless You and everyone involved. Love and Blessings, Nancy

This is the third year that l have started off on January 1st to read the entire bible and study the word. So far l have failed miserably. Third time is the charm. l have screwed up so much in my life l dont see how God can love me. lm getting too old (57) to see what good l can be to him but l love him and l don't know how or why he loves me.

This wil be my second year to read the entire Bible. So happy that God led my to DAB last year. For my second year I am looking forward to a greater understanding of the Scriptures. As one's life changes so does one's needs, etc... This year there will be new Scriptures that will speak to me as well as ones from last year that will take on new meanings. My favorite Bible verse is Jer. 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.
Something fun and interesting about me, huh, that one I will have to think on a little longer. I am from Gulfport, MS USA

I'm a 54 year old woman from West Babylon, NY. I have read the bible through about twice in the past 20 years but it took me more than one year. I had a tough time getting through some parts of the old testament. I'm not a big history buff so the history of the kings and wars has lost my attention in the past. I hope to stick with your one year plan this year. I am hoping that reading all the comments will inspire me to really "get" what God is trying to say.

I am so excited that I have found this site! I am so impressed. All Glory to God! I've read through the bible one other time with a small group I was leading many years ago. I am planning to follow both this and the chronological site! Thanks for what you do on here. As for me.... I love love love the Word of God. I am always trying to study, I love Precepts studies. I wish the world was less and we could just study away and learn all that God has left us in this wonderful book of His. Comments on today...... I have in my own personal notes...from Luke 1:38- "Behold I am a servant of the Lord; let be to me according to Your will, Oh Lord." - Just trying to live that in honoring Him in everything.

I'm 57 and from Tennessee and I've belonged to this blog for a couple of years, and always fail in following through the entire year. This is my year!! I am here today, reading and praying. Two days ago I was reading my daily devotional and journaling and I felt the spirit of God fill my heart and soul. It was the best feeling I've ever had.

I've had many ups and downs over the past few years, some of my own making, some not. But God has been right there with me and catching me when I fall and helping me along the way. I am opening my heart fully this year, and forever. Nothing is more important in this world than the love of God and the love for one another.

My favorite verse: Psalm 121....I will lift up my eyes unto the Lord, from whence cometh my help. This Psalm has sustained me throughout my life and I continue to pray it each day. Truly loved what you said about praying the Psalms every day. I am going to add that to my morning routine when I am alone with God before the rest of the house is awake. It is my favorite time of the day. I feel so blessed to be a part of this.

God Bless everyone in this new year!

I have read the Bible thru several times, but it has been awhile. My mom used to read it through every year, but I haven't been as dedicated to it as I should have been. I am looking forward to drawing closer to Jesus by learning more about Him as I study his word this year. My favorite book I think is the book of James... my favorite verse if Jer 29:11... I think it is amazing that God "thinks" about us when there is so much to think about... I live in a city called Screven in USA. This is my facebook page... http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=855560510

Have you read the entire Bible before? 2. What are you looking forward to about reading the entire Bible in 2011? 3. What's your favorite book or verse in the Bible? 4. What's a fun or interesting fact about yourself? 5. City and country you live in? (if you're comfortable sharing this - you don't need to.) 6. Do you have a blog or website link that you want to share with everyone? Thanks for participating in the roll-call! :) Also, what verses or insights stand out to you in today's readings?

Happy New Year everyone! This is the beginning of the 2nd year to read the Bible through. I started in July of 2009 at the beginning of the Bible and read from then to August of 2010, finishing the Bible for the 1st time!!(I got behind a little that is why I didn't finish in July) Then I began in August 2010 where everyone else was and just finished with everyone else. A new challenge I have for myself this year, besides learning more and drawing nearer to God is memorizing scripture. I am 36 years old and have been a Christian since I was 17. Unfortunately, I had never read through the whole Bible until this last year and a half. I believe my favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 ( For I can do everything through Christ whom gives me strength). I am very thankful for finding this one year Bible reading/blog. I plan on continuing to read through this each year! May the Joy of the Lord be your strength!!!

I am Jenniffer from California. I have read the entire bible through 3 times. I look forward to other peoples' insights into the same bible passages and the comments from Mike which I find exceptional. I have many verses in the bible that are my favorite at different times. I too think that Psalms is one of the most profound books, however, I love Paul's writing. He is direct, constructive in describing the human condition and in translating our Christian walk into daily life.

Today's reading kicks off the new year in a great way. Remembering that man is created in Gods image and God's plan. Mathew 1 and Genesis 1-2 reflect Gods plan. Then in Psalm we are trees planted next to the stream, yielding fruit. (This is our mission to take God's plan for us and to be fruitful) Am getting fed from God's stream and am I aware of how to meet God's plan for my life?

Proverbs - Fear the lord and welcome knowledge and discipline.

I am very excited about this new years reading and looking forward to everyone's comments on the reading.

57 Yr. Old female from Brooklyn New York, I read this blog weekly.I have read the bible through three times. I am looking forward to studying and reading the bible through this year. I will get up an hour early to read before getting ready for work. I want to be dedicated this year to completing the bible in a year. I love Isaiah 53:4-5. I meditate on the verse when I am not feeling well.

Thanks for the Wonderful Blog I am looking Forward to reading God's Word again this year. I have read through the Bible before but sometimes reading the Bible i would Read the Bible passively and not let it sink into me - this time i will let it sink so Resoundingly and let Christ be the Lord of my life.

My husband studied this blog daily for a couple of years. He died three months ago and as this is his opening page on our computer - I have committed to reading it since he passed. God is good, I like the part about seeing God's image in others. Thanks you.

My name is Stephanie and I live in Thornton, Colorado. I have not done a formal year of reading the bible. I do daily readings and use a daily book to help with that. I am looking forward to doing the daily Bible readings as I want to strengthen my faith in the coming year. I have dropped off from making God center in my life and feel the missing link needs to be mended and hope that by participating I will help mend that link again. I look forward to sharing these readings with all.

I look forward to reading with you this year. I'm hoping to read the NASB version for the first time, and something that really jumped out at me today was Gen 1:26, where God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness" then in v27 the pronoun is "His." It's awesomely thought provoking to think of all of the attributes and character of Father, Son and Holy Spirit rolled into One and to be created in Their (His) image! I think I'll ponder that one for a while.
I'm still in my fifties :^), a California grandma, my husband led me to your blog. Happy 1/1/11!

I am Erin in Indiana. I read rather sporadically last year and am going to try and be more consistent in 2011. I am proposing to do this with my small group to help me stay on track. :) My favorite book is Romans. My favorite verse is 2 Corinthians 12:9, "'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."

MY name is Phoebe, I have been a christian for many yrs. Just not a devoted one. I am hoping this will bring change to my life not only for me but my family as well. I have never read the entire Bible, not even close to half I am sure. When I find my favorite verse I will let you know. I just want to thank you for offering this to others and may God Bless each of us in the coming year!

I am heading up a program to encourage everyone at our church to read the OYB in 2011. We have a link to this blog on our church website and we are using every tool you have to keep folks engaged with the reading. We are also offering three classes for teaching and fellowship around the readings each week. Thanks for all you have done to bring the scriptures to life. Love the artwork, music and links to commentaries! You are helping us experience the golden age of Bible reading! BTW, I have been reading the One Year Bible since 1991. It is a treasure in my life.

I am Lily from New Jersey. I was born in the Philippines. New Jersey is my home now. My husband and I will be going to the Philippines for a visit this January for a college reunion. Looking forward to the trip since I have not been home since 1973. This will be my husband's first visit.

I read the Bible the whole year (except when we were away on vacation)following the OYB first time in 2010. I still read the Upper Room everyday which I have started many years ago for meditation.

My favorite verse is John 3:16. Thankful that God so loved the world that He gave His only Son to save us from ourselves. God is always here with us if we only acknowledge Him.

There is too much to learn and absorb. I look forward learning more this year. I pray that as I read the Bible, that God will speak to me clearly so I grow in understanding of His will for us (for me specially).

Today, I gain better understanding of creation, Jesus lineage and it's relevance to the old testament prophecies and revelations.

I used to be in FB. Opted out in November to smell the flowers and spend more time with family and visitng friends.

Thanks Mike for this great blog.

Happy New Year to all.

God bless.

Lily

Hi! My name is Tosin. I have started the bible in a year a few times but have never been able to finish. I want this to be my year of completing and learning more about God whilst drawing closer to Him. A verse I love and that continually encourages me is Phil 4:13

Hiya!

It is the first time for me to put a comment here!

Let's introduce myself, I am Deaf and my name is Esther, from Surrey in UK. I joined this bible blog in few years ago, and hadn't completed or committed to read the entire Bible, but today, I have decided and ask God to help me to focus the whole Bible this year. So I am looking forward to it - what a challenge for 2011!

Mike - I have to say that your blog is very good and useful, especially with images and photos because as being a Deaf person, I prefer visual aids to help me to understand better than just reading texts on its own. So thank you, Mike for doing this blog!

I am looking forward to expand my knowledge of the Bible and also to experience more of God's presence while reading His Word. It is so exciting!

My favourite is Joshua 1:9 - "Remember that I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don't be afraid, because the Lord, your God will be with you everywhere you go." I got that verse when I became a Christian and it helped me all the way through ups and downs in my life... and surely God will be with me and you all in this year, 2011!

Two things of today's readings has challenged me is;
Genesis 2:3 - It is not easy to have a rest day, especially in our lives today when things are busy!
Psalm 1: 2a - I do love God's teaching, but not enough spending time on reading God's Word - day and night. That's something I will aim for this year, 2011 is to read the entire Bible!

Let's go along on our journey with God in 2011!
Happy New Year!

HI. I started my one year devotional bible in 2009 and made it through June. When I got so behind, I got too discouraged and tried to catch up but never did. So, I pray today that with God's help, I will remain faithful and draw closer to God each and every day.
My most recent favorite bible verse (because it always changes) is Phillipians 4:6 (Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be know to God).
I'm a 37 yr old married mother of 2(12&14)nurse and live in Sterling, Il which is about 100 miles west of Chicago.
I'm so thankful right now that I decided to do a search on a one year through the bible study and am grateful to you and to everyone involved in this process.
God Bless You!

Please pray for me. I have tried many times to read through the Bible and I have always failed. This year I am trying to do it online, so I hope it will be easier for me.

Dear Jill Simms,

You are never too old to serve God. I teach preschoolers and I believe this is the ministry that God has for me. I am 59 years old and I have taught for fifteen years. I now must have a degree to teach them, so I am well on my way to an AA degree and then will begin my bachelors degree.
You are only as old as you feel and I do not feel old at all!

Hello! I'm AJ from Royal Palm Beach, FL. It's my first time commenting here and it's also my first attempt at reading the entire Bible. The thing that I'm looking forward to accomplishing through this Bible reading plan is that I will make it a habit to read my Bible daily -- something I've been meaning to do for awhile. I also wish to draw closer to God.

I'm so glad to be a part of this group. My name is Monica and this is a renewed attempt to read through the Bible in 2011! I'm surprised at how quickly a year goes and how distracted I can become! My prayer is completion by His grace. I will claim his precious promise in Phil 1:6 : he that has begun a good work in me will complete it!

I was lucky enough to find this site on facebook. I have never read the whole bible. I have started a couple of times, but never finished. I never had a real plan and this year I received a Kindle for Christmas, saved the pdf and transferred it to the kindle. I want to read the whole bible to have more knowledge. I know the gospels and the other "stories" from the bible, but not the actual words as they are written. My favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11 (Of what I have read, may have a new one at the end of the year :) ) For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. in 2011?

I'm excited to join you this year. I'm a stay at home mom with all the kids in school now. My 12 year old is joining me on this journey along with my next door neighbor. I've read through the Bible before, but it's been awhile. I'm so excited that my daughter wants to give it a try! Thanks for your work in making this happen!

Hello i have been on this site for a year now and i do appreciate the one year bible website and blog. i read the NLT And think it has helped me know god. i just wanna point out what stood out to me in todays readings was Genesis1:26 where it says Let US MAKE MAN IN OUR IMAGE. that stood out to me. why because in John chapter 1 we see that Jesus christ created the world and that he was with God and he was god. Jesus christ is god in the flesh. the drawings of God in the blog today resting is Jesus christ. Jesus is God in the flesh. Jesus christ has always been here he is the visible image of the Invisable God

Hi, I am from the midwest. I purchased a One Year Bible several years ago, but have never been able to make it through a whole year. I have not read through the entire Bible. I am looking forward to using this blog & facebook to help me complete this journey.

Shalom! I'm Lori, I'm a wife and cpa-lawyer in my early 30s from the Philippines. Psalms is my favorite book in the Bible, and at times, I'd read it out loud to praise and/or cry out to God. I haven't read through the entire Bible yet, although I attempted to do so (but got stalled by March) last year. This year, by God's grace, I look forward to reading the entire bible...oneyearbibleblog.com will definitely be my companion as I do so. So may God always bless you and your ministry, Mike! Glory be to God, always! :) May God also bless everyone who I will be reading through the Bible with in 2011! :)

Hi my name is Joe. I live about 20 miles east of San Diego in a rural community. I have been a believer for over 30 years and am ashamed to say I have never read through the Bible. This WILL be my year! God has always been faithful and I rely on Him everyday. I am a 911 dispatcher and believe it is where He has called me to be to do His work. I consider my job a ministry. I am looking forward to reading and growing with all of you this year. Happy 2011!

I am a mother of 3 daughers married 19 years. I have thankfullly been able to read the Bible through several times in the past 10-15 years. I purchased a New International cassette version about 10 years ago and read through with that about 5 times which I loved because it had the sounds of the things in the background like animals, people talking, etc. I ended up misplacing a few of the tapes and I was so happy to find this website. We do daily devotionals as a family at the breakfast table with the One Year Devotionals book and my daughters have had several of the One Year Devotionals for Girls each year and read them along with their Bible daily, and My husband has had some of the Devotionals for men also. So we were so happy to find this website especially since we were familiar with your devotionals and how true to the Bible they were. It is such a blessing to listen to the audio version and follow along in my Bible and read your commentary on each chapter and verse we read. I also love that you place a video to worship with song. It is truly a worship experience each day in addition to attending our church and Sunday School, which is a First Baptist Church in Arkansas each week. Thank You for the gift that you have given us and I pray that many people will be led to you through this outreach and that each of us will grow stronger in our walk with our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ.

*In my Post above in the last sentance - I meant to say that I pray that many people will be led to GOD through this outreach and that each of us will grow stronger in our walk with our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ. THANK YOU!!!

Hi I'm Jane from Centerville, Ohio. My family and I (hubby and 2 young kids) came here from Singapore in 2009. I started reading the one year bible in 2010. Then I stumbled upon this website somewhere in the second half of the year. 2011 will be my second year to read the whole bible again. Thank God for this wonderful website. I'm deeply touched and encouraged by the dedication and hard work put in by all you wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ into this website. I gained lots of knowledge about God's words and His unfailing love for me. Please keep up the good work, all glory goes to our awesome God! My favourite verse if 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. Blessed New Year to all!

My name is Jen from Wisconsin, who is a mother of four and wife of 13+ years. I am new to this wonderful bible study site. I have read portions of the Bible, mainly when I was a young kid. Throughout the years, I have done a couple of other bible studies, but I have never attempted to read the whole Bible in a year. I am looking forward to the challenge of going deeper into God's Word in its entirety. Reading the Bible is amazing in how it brings you so much closer to Him in so many ways. I can not wait to be able to be more familiar with the entire Bible. I really enjoyed the last bible study my group and I did on Daniel:Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophecy by Beth Moore--I loved the history lessons as well as the life lessons taught in the study. I am amazed how God "speaks" to us through the Bible every time I read it.
I am a former teacher who now stays home--my hubby and I are both self-employed in our own businesses. I am an independent consultant for Creative Memories--I offer my customers many photo solutions for memory preservation through their digital and hardcopy photos/memorabilia.
Revisiting the "supernatural birth" just after the Christmas Season really hit home with me--this is not just a story, but HIS STORY!! Praise you, Lord, open our minds, hearts and lives to fully participate in the study of Your Word this year and always.

Hi, I am Hein, I am from South Africa and read the Bible in one year last year with the help of this blog.

What a time Mike had to have to put this together! I learnt last year that God deeply wanted, from the Old Testament, to to have fellowship with His people and hates any form of "competition". That explains why He hates idols.

God really loves us and want to have us draw close to Him, He is ready and waiting.

If you fall behind, put in the effort and catch up, it is absolutely worth it.

Five days into the New Year I realized that I simply have to read the Bible again and I am starting again right
away.

This year I plan to spend more time reading the commentaries.

Hello. I found this site a few days ago and have been reading along with you all, but am just now taking the time to comment. I may not have time to comment every day, but I wanted to at least let you know I've joined the group.

If I get through the Bible this year, it will be my first time. I've only completed 11 books so far. I have a NIV One Year Bible and challenged my 10yo daughter to read it this year while I join her online. I'm reading the NLT version.

Anyway, here are my answers to your roll call questions.

1. Have you read the entire Bible before? Nope, see above.

2. What are you looking forward to about reading the entire Bible in 2011? Understanding the entire history contained within the Bible as it pertains to the world today. I own several large hardbound Bible commentaries, but I think until I've read through the entire Bible they will continue to not make sense to me. For instance, when I read on your commentary that Eber meant Hebrew, I was in awe about the lineage of Shem. It's the little things (not that that's so little) that I want to learn and I can't wait to better understand my pastor's messages about specific passages once I know Israel's history.

3. What's your favorite book or verse in the Bible? Leaning heavily on Phil 4:5 right now, but I love Romans and most of the letters by Paul.

4. What's a fun or interesting fact about yourself? Nothing much about me is fun or interesting, but I'm a single mom of two, 33 years old and hoping to begin a Single Mom's Ministry in my local area soon.

5. City and country you live in? Paradise, California, USA.

6. Do you have a blog or website link that you want to share with everyone? Yes, I have a blog at http://deepinathought.com. I am a freelance writer and blogger, but this blog is new to me so I could use the readership.

Hi, I always tend to start the year hoping to read the bible from cover to cover. But somehow along the way, I am not successful. For that,I call myself a drop-out. With this new site, my desire to finish and study the Word of God means something, reading insights and looking at some pictuures are helpful. I have started another Bible Journal and I am taking notes of what I have learned through this site. Thank you for starting this effective tool for someone like me, who always have the heart to aspire to study His word, but I guess, was weak to put it into complete action. Hoping to finish the Good News with you this 2011.
