Genesis 31:17-32:12

So much “stuff’ and so little time to dwell on everything that pops out at me going through the text: Lett’s see, there is fleeing to avoid confrontation but the confrontation catches up with Jacob; household gods, where are they and who took them; a treaty called for by Laban only because he was confronted by Jacob with his duplicitous actions (when you can’t respond change the topic and don’t ask for forgiveness call a truce); and now Esau is coming with an army of 400 men, or so it appears. This is a very busy passage but what really caught my eye and my interest this read though was Jacobs finally calling out to God in prayer for protection.

Then Jacob prayed, "O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, O Lord, you said to me, 'Return to your land and to your relatives and I will make you prosper.' I am not worthy of all the faithful love you have shown your servant. With only my walking stick I crossed the Jordan, but now I have become two camps. Rescue me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, as well as the mothers with their children. But you said, 'I will certainly make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand on the seashore, too numerous to count.' "
(Genesis 32:9-12 NET.)

For the first time Jacob faces his fears, doubts, and holds them up to God in the light of His promises. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he brings up to the forefront of his memory what God had told him twenty years before. God has spoken to each of each through His Word and to our hearts. He has laid out the paths He has planned for us before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 2:10), our job is to find that path. It thrills my heart to know that I have access to a God, a true god that never gives up on me or disposes of me when I fail to maintain and keep my part of the covenant. God is truly faithful when I am faithless.

Grace and peace,

The verse we are memorizing is very powerful.

"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven."

I have a personal story to mention regarding this. I go to a Bible Study class every Wednesday and I have to leave early from work to make it on time. When I was asking my boss permission to leave a little early she asked me where I was going and I said, "To a Study class." -leaving out the word BIBLE -- I'm ashamed to say it but that is what I did because I was trying to be politically correct. Then, I thought of this verse and how I was damning myself and not acknowledging God.

I pray the next time I am asked I will acknowledge and not disown.

I've always wondered what it would be like to meet Jesus in person. How would I react?

Two nights ago I had a dream that I was walking down a hallway and there were other people milling about. I saw a man walking towards me and wondered who he was. Then I realized as I got closer it was Jesus (I'm not sure how I knew) and he was being followed by a group of people. I was overwhelmed with the emotion of awe and unworthiness and fell instantly flat on the floor in front of Him.

That's when I woke up. It was such an overwhelming emotion that I couldn't sleep the rest of the night and that feeling has stayed with me the last couple days. I wasn't afraid at all but just in awe and a deep sense of knowing He was God and I wasn't worthly to stand in his presence.

I honestly believe Jesus meets each of us where our thoughts and feelings are and helps bring us closer to Him every day if we seek Him.

The ways in which I seek wisdom each day, is to read and prepare my day with prayer and have a joyful heart! The Bible tells us that a joyful heart is like good medicine! So I try to always have my joy, and also, I try to learn from the mistakes that are laid before me, like a bad decision or to be watchful of wolves in sheeps clothing! Especially when you are in the ministry(which we all should be in some shape, form or fashion). We have to be on guard and just cry out for wisdom and discernment.(Proverbs 1:20, 1 Cor 12:1-12). So get the free gift of discernment and know that is is a gift from above!

Be Blessed!
