Genesis 8:10-32

Mike – In your comments regarding Noah, the dove and the olive branch, I, for the first time see an example for us in how to walk by faith and not by sight. I believe that in every part of the Bible, Old and New Testament redemption, salvation, righteous living and holiness that point to the Messiah and His Work on the cross, can be seen. It just takes time and persistence to see it or have it revealed.

When Noah, sending out the raven that flew back and forth until the earth was dry and then sending out the dove, did this, he set an example of how to walk by faith. The text shows us that even thought there was a window on the Ark his eye sight was blocked. He knew that the earth was out there but he was not able to use his five senses to determine the condition of the ground. We are told by the apostle Paul not to walk in or after the flesh especially in his letter to the Romans. Moses relied on two birds that feed on and live amongst two entirely different food sources.

The raven is a carrion, it feeds on dead things, dead flesh. The dove, which is also a symbol of the Holy Spirit, does not hang around death. Paul states:

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
(Romans 8:1 KJV)

The olive branch represents the anointing, the Anointed One. The raven flew back and forth feeding on flesh, the dead things of this world. Moreover, there would have been a lot of “flesh” floating on the water and the raven had a field day. But the dove can’t hang out with the dead, she/he needed the “Annointed One,” the Olive Branch, in order to live upon the earth, so too those called by His Name.

Please note the above may just be the product of a very fertile imagination.

(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
(2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV)

Grace and peace,
Ramona

I love your insight Ramona!
Comments from me and Question of the day!
Do I still believe Jesus calls people today? Yes, Jesus is definitely calling us daily to come to him to be disciplined and lead people to Christ.

A time when I felt God calling me? 20 years ago I was @ a church and it was during the time 9/11 happened, our Pastor as the time came to me and asked if I would evangelize and help him unite our community and I felt a strong calling to that from the Lord. I was a Lay Speaker back then in the Methodist church. --Also a time during fasting and prayer listening to Prayer Meeting on TBN with Mike Murdock-felt compelled to send a large amount $1000 to sow a seed-wanted guidance for a job- wanted to feel needed and be planted where God wanted me-He opened up storehouses and gave me a blessing. Still reaping to this day.

Insight for today:

I love how God remembered Noah! I hope I leave a mark on this Earth or leave heavenly -Kingdom rememberence where God remembers me!
Timing: you know I love timing: 150 days later-exactly 5 months later from time flood began -it stopped (isn't God's timing perfect)?
On Mountain of Ararat at that- I always think of that time when I visit my husband's Granny's church called Mt. Ararat.
2 1/2 months later water continues to go down- still 40 more days (there's that significant number again) Noah opened a window.
It's neat he referenced two birds a raven and a dove-completely opposite birds for various reasons-he released both -one eats on dead things and one we know represents peace and the Holy Spirit was referenced as a dove many times.
The dove returned because it couldn't find dry land to rest its feet. Noah drew it back in and waited 7 more days(another significant number in bible- rest) and then released again, this time it brought back an olive branch (a symbol of peace) he waited 7 more days and released it again. This time it didn't come back. This was a time of resting on earth and a lesson in patience and rest on that boat as well.

Noah now 601 years old -1st day of new year (Happy New Year) 10 1/2 months after flood began (remember started 17th day of 2nd month of following year) the flood waters had almost dried up. Noah lifted the covering of boat and saw surface was drying.. still a lesson in God's timing. His timing is NOT our timing. 2 more months went by and @ last God told Noah he could leave the Ark and all animals and family!

I couldn't imagine- a little over a year, floating in a boat, with spouse, children, their spouses, and every animal imaginable. Wow.. I know the bible referenced the patience of Job.. how about the patience of Noah. Amazing faith and patience, my friend.

However it may be, the faith giant Noah built an altar unto the Lord and sacrificed the animals and birds God had approved for that purpose. The pleasing aroma hit God's nostrils and it pleased Him. He professed never to destroy the ground or curse it again., because of the human race, even though everything humans think or imagine is bent toward evil from childhood.

It's sad the analogy-however we were born into sin-However thankful for the blood of Jesus -our Perfect Lamb.

This is the first time God had given meat to humans for food, not just grain and veggies. But never meat w/ blood in it that is where life is formed.

God is now making a declaration that any who sheds human blood will be killed. Kill with human hands and human hands, you will die. The laws are getting ready to come into effect soon.

The Noahic Covenant- I loves God's covenants! beautiful. Never again will He ever flood the earth again and destroy by flood -hence the rainbow.

I would love to give more commentary in my notes but hence have to go to work!

Be blessed bloggers!

Two important things came to Mind from the reading today. ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION. I became aware of a “simple” reason we go down these paths.

Psalm 4:4 brought to mind how anxiety can cause all sorts of problems and can keep us up all night.

Genesis 9:22 is a good example of what depression can do to you. A great perspective of Noah’s struggle with the weight he carried in his past is when you watch the 2014 Movie “Noah” with Russell Crowe as Noah. Here is the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAfJulXFYlc

With Jesus help (Wisdom Proverbs 1:23) we have a means to combat these feelings or ways of thinking.
If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.
