Today's reading in Genesis opened my eyes to see the remarkable faith of Abraham. God calls him away from all he knows to a land that God will show him. The promise of God starts in Genesis 12 to bless him, and make him the father of a great nation, and inherit a land for his offspring. Along the way, Abraham shows true character in offering Lot first choice in the land before them. It is actually comical in a way. I picture Lot with his eyes just taking in the potential bounty from the fertile plains and after a long look "Lot chose that land for himself'! Not only did Lot think first of himself, but chose to set up tent near an ungodly group of people. "After Lot was gone" the Lord took Abrham aside and gave him the 360 degree look of all that lay before him and seemed to say, "if you think what Lot took was great, turn around and see, "I am going to give all this land to you..." as far as he could see. Isn't that just like God who wows us with His abundance. If we keep our trust on the One who is trustworthy, then nothing else really matters. Abraham could have chosen first since he was older, he could have demanded the best, but instead he cared less for material gain than taking care of those in his charge. He took care of Lot both in land and in rescue, and also his allies after rescuing Lot. Abraham knew God was trustworthy which explains why he so obediently left his home, family, and relatives to go on this adventure yet to be seen. And if we look at God's promises to Abraham, other than Isaac, Abraham really didn't live to see the promises fulfilled. Hebrews 11:13 "All these faithful ones died without receiving what God had promised them, BUT THEY SAW IT ALL FROM A DISTANCE and welcomed the promises of God." I pray God would teach me to have the character to live beyond what I see, and live by faith looking foward to the legacy before me. Abraham "believed God" to be good for all His promises and lived knowing God was good for His Word.

Wow..yes Ramona..to have the faith to live beyond the scope of sight and believe what the eye can't see even if I don't see it in my lifetime but my descendents life. Awesome.

I really don't have any books on lust or overcoming other than I know when we get more in the Word and the Spirit of God, those chains will fall and we can overcome through Christ which gives us strength.

Gen 13:5-15:21

Isn't it nice to be blessed in the overflow of God's favor bestowed to Abraham- He was blessed, therefore, Lot was blessed too.
However sometimes when we are priviledged, it makes us have a bit of entitlement @ times. The herdsmen weren't getting along so therefore Abram mentioned departing and separating-One go left, other go right. Lot instead of telling, Uncle, no you choose 1st, you've been so good to me, I'll take whatever is left-Lot took one look @ the best land for himself and didn't hesitate-to go there..
but you know when we get out from under the anointed, it doesn't matter how good something is- Without strong faith and leadership -Leading of God -you might as well be walking into the Lion's Den.
Sometimes though God is waiting for the Lot's in our life to move- to leave before He shows up and shows out in our life.
When Lot left, God spoke to Abram again-revealing his promise to him-his destiny and the promise of land as far as the eye can see.
Now Abrams nephew, the area he lived all hell broke loose with wars and he got captured-however some allies escaped and alerted Abram.
Abram quickly got up his best men 318 to be exact-and went to attack --Doesn't matter how big the giant is, with God on our side-doesn't stand a chance -he will be defeated.

And the sweet blessings from the king of Salem -visited Abram-he was not only a King but also a Priest.
I love verse 6 of ch 15: And Abram believed the Lord and the Lord counted him as righteous because of His faith.
How beautiful.

Well have to get busy and ready for work.

Be blessed!

A teacher once told me that Melchizedec was Shem who live a long life 900 + years. I cant remember the explanation sorry.

The good Lord gave me the grace to forgive a person who had hurt me very deeply when I was young. I wanted to forgive but could not in my own strength. It happened at the Eucharist and the Lord showed himself as my Saviour. At that Mass he gave me the grace to forgive. He forgave me, he showed me that everything in the Bible was true and he took away a lustful sin that held me captive for 20 years. The sin was gone and any temptation with it. If it showed its ugly head again I called on the Lord and it was taken away immediately. 3 times it appeared, each time very much weaker. This was grace upon grace. Praised be to God.

Just adding an addendum
Shem was 600 years old Illoked up Wikipedia and copied this exert...

According to some Jewish traditions (e.g., B. Talmud Nedarim 32b; Genesis Rabbah 46:7; Genesis Rabbah 56:10; Leviticus Rabbah 25:6; Numbers Rabbah 4:8.), Shem is believed to have been Melchizedek, King of Salem, whom Abraham is recorded to have met after the Battle of the Four Kings.

I love the prayer Melchizedec prayed. We could apply it to anyone we wanted to bless.

18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying,

“Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
    Creator of heaven and earth.
20 And praise be to God Most High,
who delivered your enemies into your hand.”

Mathew’s take on law and sin.

I would like to chime in here with some thoughts about how I have found ways in which to battle, confront, repent, and move forward with my sins forgiven. There are numerous groups that will meet on a weekend or more and will allow you to dive deeper into issues you have trouble with.
A big one for men is adultery, pornography and sex.

The three I have found exceptional are Promise Keepers (men only), because they will usually have a workshop that defines the male/female relationship that God ordained. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promise_Keepers.

The second is a great one churches are now doing is SET FREE which men and women can do and involves six topics that are discussed and prayed about. https://mysouthland.com/retreats-seminars.

The third one is very intense but is a life changer. It’s a program over several months that require study, writing and testimony. https://freedomsession.com/.
