I have a couple of thoughts on Abrahams testing. Read the verse as God exercised Abraham. I like that better because it conveys the thought that we don’t really fail as much as grow.
I have always thought that Abraham believes God will resurrect Isaac from the dead. I think it is with that belief he was able to carry out the intention of killing of his son Isaac.
Jewish tradition thrusts Isaac into the foreground by naming the episode, “the binding of Isaac’. Vs 9. This is more accurate because the “sacrifice of Isaac” was never completed.

Mathew 7

I believe it is important to remember that Jesus was accused of being a false prophet. That being said, we are required to examine what kind of fruit did he bear?

Today’s shifting morals are confusing and we can be tempted by culture or society’s opinions. God’s word should be the foundation of our decisions. There is stability!

Covid:

It is really interesting how Covid has made me think about how to build strong foundations without the support of church, gatherings, and studies. However, we have to rethink about ways the Lord wants to lead us through this time. I spoke on the phone for an hour today to a vibrant 74 year old lady from church who is finding this extremely difficult and yet she left me with her hope that this is the time she calls a “Covid blessing of clarity”.
After much debate we concluded that Isaac trusted his Father as Abraham trusted God the Father and Jesus showed us he trusted his Father.

That would be faith.
dee commented on 'January 9th One Year Bible Readings'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341c5ebf53ef026bdeb46e4a200c2021-01-09T16:41:13Z2021-01-09T16:41:13ZdeeYes God is a God who can and He will!
You asked Mike, what do we do to stay grounded and have a firm foundation in Christ.. to me it's: important to pray , I have fasted, read and journaled while studying my Bible. We do have bible study at church. It is on break right now but next Wedneday we are on the book of Acts. Picking up on the 16th chapter. I feel like these are most important. The death of my mom. the Lord got me through-Yes, thank you Jesus.

Abraham was still being tested when he entered new areas like Gerar- when he told Abimelech that his wife was really his sister (They shared Terah as a daddy and had different moms).
Are we like that @ times telling half truths? Are we fearful of ambush or hostility so we tell a half truth? hmmm..

And God loved Abraham so much, he warned Abimelech in a dream not to touch her. Wouldn't life be much simpler if we allowed God to speak through us reminding or warning of an impending judgment? Crime would be down and our world wouldn't be so chaotic.

Ch 7 of Matthew teaches us to beware of false prophets-I sincerely am concerned for our country with the new ones in Congress and White House but I choose to look unto the Heavens where that is where my strength comes.

Such good verses in Ps ch 9 -I love praise and tell of all the marvelous things-You've done Lord-I love how the Word says the Lord avenges murder and cares for the helpless
the Lord doesn't ignore the cries of those who suffer.
Proverb 2:16-22
Wisdom-- what we should seek for- Follow steps of good men- the godly wil live in the land -those with integrity will remain in it.

Yes.. thankyou Jesus for your Word, for the integrity of men, the Love of reading Your Word, and this blog Lord~
Amen!
Blessings to all!
Ramona commented on 'January 9th One Year Bible Readings'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341c5ebf53ef026bdeb4542d200c2021-01-09T05:26:33Z2021-01-09T05:26:33ZRamonaRegarding Sarah being old. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and yes, the standards of beauty are different in every culture and historical time fame. Take a walk through an art gallery that covers a large time frame, let’s say centuries, and you will see a time-line of the changing standards of beauty. It is this society, the MTV, every household, or at least every tiny village worldwide has someone in it with a television society that has begun to worship “youth” and held it up as THE standard of beauty. We have grown accustom to looking at the outside, ignoring the inside. The world sees everything from the outside in, God sees things from the inside out.

Also if you think that there are no beautiful “old” woman, then you may be operating on assumptions. If you think old equals ugly, then an older woman who is beautiful may be passed off by you as being young or younger. Old and young are all relative terms anyway.

Many daughters have done virtuously, nobly, and well [with the strength of character that is steadfast in goodness], but you excel them all. Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised!
(Proverbs 31:29-30 AMP)

Even if people lived longer, the biblical texts points out that both Abraham and Sarah were long past the age of child bearing, though men have the capacity to father a child long into their “old” age. The question for Abraham was did he have the capability physically to father Isaac. Both seem to know that in the natural, without God, no children would be forthcoming.

And God said to Abraham, As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai; but Sarah [Princess] her name shall be. And I will bless her and give you a son also by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall come from her. Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said in his heart, Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a son?
(Genesis 17:15-17 AMP)

Looking at the pattern of God we will see that He has this habit of always picking the week, the underdog, the one who in their own strength cannot accomplish anything. In fact, if Abraham and Sarah were able to produce children on their own then God would not get the glory. They were a “sign” and a “wonder” to all those around them that indeed, there is a God above all other gods, a God that can resurrect dead things and dead people.
