February 14th

In the NT reading for today, the drama of Jesus unfolds to a surprising chapter:

28 :1  Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb.

[And they have a supernatural experience….]

...5 Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying…

...8 The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel’s message. 9 And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.”

Jesus has risen from the tomb. He has defeated the enemy of death for all time. The women see Him , risen from the tomb.

The ESV Study Bible states:
Matt. 28:9 Took hold of his feet shows that this is no mere vision or hallucination but a physical resurrection. By allowing this act of worship, here and in v. 17, Jesus accepts the acknowledgment of his deity, as only God is to be worshiped.

The devout women run to tell the disciples what they have witnessed.

However, the Jewish elders tell the guards to lie about what has happened:

13 They told the soldiers, “You must say, ‘Jesus’ disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body.’

These and other lies regarding Jesus are still blasphemously told today!

16 Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Jesus gives His disciples the Great Commission to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth; baptizing and making disciples as they do. Jesus assures them that He will be with them “even to the end of the age”. How comforting that must have been for these followers… He is with us even now.

Matthew 24: 14 “And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.”

What seemed like the ultimate tragedy has ended up as the ultimate victory over sin and death. Jesus is Lord!

Maranatha!

Prayer for Today:
Lord, keep the eyes of all Your children firmly on You. Make Your voice heard, Your direction clear. Please open our hearts and minds to You. You are with us until the end of the age, for which we thank You. All praise for Your eternal decrees. Amen.

Exodus 37-38:31

Repetition of long lists is the stuff that absolutely drives new Bible readers’ batty, old readers also. This is the stuff that you read and wonder, “Why?” Why the repetition, it was boring then (Chapter 25-27) and it is boring now. Or if you were/are like me, you read sections like this going 100 miles per hour (sorry I am not into kilometers) just to get through it.

I know Mike spoke of this yesterday, before it was spoken of in future tense, now it is in the past tense. Today I think I got it! God may give us instructions, but do we carry those instructions out, here we are given what was done to measure against what was said. How often do we change what we were given to do because we know better? This happens very often when we are given orders by our bosses, or something is ordered by way of contract, we short change the directions. We may do it because we have greater knowledge then those giving the orders. (This is a common refrain, “My boss is an idiot. And if this falls through, I’ll be blamed.”) In reality, we short the order because we are saving the costs for our own pocketbooks or to save on “time,” it will take longer to use that particular material. The type of wood used, acacia wood is hard and very dense and to work with it would mean lots of time was needed to work the plans and to keep the tools sharpened. Contractors frequently short the list of materials either by using cheaper materials or cutting the measurements of the job. We have compliance officers or inspectors, sometimes, who are paid off, to insure that the work is held to the original standard. We have this belief in the United States, at least, that “whistle blowers,” are to be shunned and possible fired, if they tell. In New York City, sometimes, with new tall Residential buildings, a building will build more stories than the zoning ordnances allowed or stated in the original plans. They usually are fined something inconsequential compared to what will be made on selling or renting out the extra floors, or they are told to build a public space, such as a park, on the grounds. This space is usually constructed to be hidden from public view.

God is giving us the tools to test not only His work, but the compliance of those who did the work. Unlike men, who look the other way or punish those who “tell”, God is in the Testing and Compliance business:

Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. (1 Corinthians 3:12-14 KJVR)

Grace and peace,

Hi! That's cool in Exodus..now you see in part. Soon we will know fully and understand. The washbasin and the copper..but a reflection or shimmer of yourself. How different it must have been to not see yourself fully..kind of like faith. We don't see it fully..but in part.

Matthew: great commission. I will be with you even to the ends of the earth. Jesus did all he did so we may have life Abundantly.

Psalms: being crushed in spirit..spirit.. is there for us. His is a faithful God

Proverbs: I choose to follow the way of wisdom
