Several verses caught my eye in this reading, the first is:

1) 1When God created people, he made them in the likeness of God …3When Adam was 130 years old, his son Seth was born, and Seth was the very image of his father. (Genesis 5:1,3 NLT)

Hmm, First man was made in the image of God, and subsequently all the others were made in the image of his father, Adam. There is a BIG difference when we have an image of the original then when we make an image of the “copy” so to speak. (Could this have something to do with the sons of God/daughters of men? Just a thought and I’m not throwing out a theology.)

2) Then the Lord said, My Spirit shall not forever dwell and strive with man, for he also is flesh; but his days shall yet be 120 years.
(Genesis 6:3 AMP)

I used another translation for my second eye-catcher. “My Spirit will not forever strive with man for he is ALSO flesh.” The image God made Adam in, in my humble opinion, was not after our outward appearance. There was something else about us that was placed within us that reflected God’s image back to Him. I think that is a hint for me, for us to get off of the skin color, straight hair curly/nappy hair, wide nose thin note, big lips thin lips kick we find ourselves on in an attempt to demonize each other.

3) It’s not so much as what you know but who you know.

But Noah found grace (favor) in the eyes of the Lord. This is the history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a just and righteous man, blameless in his [evil] generation; Noah walked [in habitual fellowship] with God.
(Genesis 6:8-9 AMP)

Noah’s sons and daughter-in-laws were given favor by God not because of their righteousness but because of their father’s righteousness. Proverbs 13:22 states:

A good man leaves an inheritance [of moral stability and goodness] to his children's children, and the wealth of the sinner [finds its way eventually] into the hands of the righteous, for whom it was laid up.
(Proverbs 13:22 AMP)

Our lives are lived not so much for ourselves but for our progeny. What kind of inheritance are we leaving?

Grace and peace,
Ramona

Working with youth and having Bible studies at my church - some wince when lists of names come up in the readings, and I always remind them - in this case it is history and the people are real people

A fun exercise: look up the meanings of the names listed in Genesis 5. Wrote the meanings down in order, and see what it says. Methuselah is the tricky one that makes the message prophetic.

When the Trinity is on display at Jesus’ baptism, some people struggle with the idea of three persons in one being. Try this explanation: If a person is defined not by physical body, but by mind, spirit, or soul - is it possible for three different mind, spirit, or souls to exist within one infinite being?

Secular book “After” by Dr. Bruce Grayson is a great resource to understand our personhood.

I know a pretty good bit of scripture
.so yes scripture does come to mind in trials and day to day conversation. Yes..no sure fire way to memorize but adding on bathroom mirror one a day until u memorize it
